John Groves Embry, Jr., age 83, of Euless, Texas died on May 1, 2024. He was born on April 21, 1941, to the late John Groves Embry, Sr. and Martha Young Embry in Atlanta, Georgia. He was an only child raised in Atlanta, Georgia and Miami, Florida. He attended school in DeKalb County, Georgia and was a 1959 graduate of North Miami Beach High School. He attended Georgia Military College in Milledgeville, Georgia prior to serving in the United States Army 24th Infantry Division for two years, including service in Munich and Berlin, Germany. He married Paula Sue Harrison on August 24, 1968, in Birmingham, Alabama. John worked for Otis Elevator Company for 34 years serving as a Sales Representative, District Manager and Regional Manager upon his retirement in 1999. John then enjoyed working as a sales demonstrator for Cobra Golf as well as the pro shop manager for several golf courses. John was an active member of First Baptist Church McKinney, Texas where he and Sue enjoyed serving in their adopt a school ministry. John and Sue also delivered Meals on Wheels for 10 years after John's retirement.
John moved his family from Alabama to Texas in 1977 and was a proud Texan immediately upon arrival, until his death. He was a devoted fan of both professional and college football, and he loved nothing more than the University of Alabama football team and their coach, Nick Saban. He also enjoyed playing golf and held a lifelong interest in cars. John loved telling jokes and stories, and entertained others with his playful and mischievous demeanor. He was friendly and along with his sense of humor, he easily collected lifelong friends. John thoroughly enjoyed spoiling his grandchildren, grand dogs, and his own beloved dogs.
John is survived by his wife of 55 years, Sue Harrison Embry, of Euless, Texas; daughter Melissa Embry of Bedford, Texas; daughter and son-in-law Suzanne and Vaughn Brummer of Madisonville, Kentucky; grandchildren Joshua Kashila, Daniel Kashila, and Alexandra Baker of Bedford, Texas; and Aidan Brummer, Chase Brummer, and Paige Brummer of Madisonville, Kentucky; as well as many other family and dear friends.
A Memorial Service will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 25, 2024, at Cross City Church, 1000 W. Airport Freeway in Euless, Texas. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider making a donation in John's name to a charity of your choice.
