In Loving Memory of Melody Jo Sallak

May 4, 1959 – August 5, 2026

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Melody Jo Sallak, who passed away peacefully at her home in Fort Worth, Texas, on August 5, 2026, at the age of 67. Born on May 4, 1959, in Dowagiac, Michigan, Melody lived a life filled with love, laughter, creativity, and unwavering devotion to her family and friends.

Melody is survived by her loving husband, Dan Hayes, whose cooking she adored and whose love brought her great happiness. She also leaves behind her beloved children: Pete Shrider, Warren Loignon, and Whitney Loignon, along with her treasured grandchildren, who brought endless joy to her life. She is also survived by her brother, Rex Sallak and his wife, Kelly; her sister, Brenda Holmes and her husband, Robert "Bob" Holmes; and many extended family members and dear friends who will miss her deeply.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Kathleen Sallak and Bohumir "Peter" Sallak; her sister, Kay Ryor; and her brother, Jeff Sallak.

To know Melody was to know joy. She had a personality that could light up any room the moment she walked through the door, and her unmistakable laugh was contagious. She was loud, proud, and unapologetically herself—a woman whose warmth, humor, and vibrant spirit made everyone around her feel welcome.

Melody had a remarkable creative talent and found great happiness in crafting, especially making beautiful glass bead artwork. She also enjoyed spending quiet hours working on jigsaw puzzles and crossword puzzles. An animal lover through and through, she cherished her dogs and always had a special place in her heart for animals.

Melody took tremendous pride in her career at Kroger. She believed in doing every job to the best of her ability and was known for her attention to detail and high standards. A true perfectionist, she never hesitated to mentor, train, and encourage others, helping them grow and succeed. Her kindness, patience, and willingness to teach left a lasting impression on countless coworkers.

She was a loyal and devoted friend. Her 20-year friendship with Chris Taylor was especially meaningful. Chris stood faithfully by Melody's side through life's joys and challenges, visiting her during hospital stays and serving as a bridesmaid at her wedding. Their bond was one of unwavering love, trust, and friendship.

Melody was also an enthusiastic Chicago Bears fan, cheering for her team through every season with passion and optimism.

Above all else, Melody's greatest love was her family. She adored her children and grandchildren beyond measure, celebrating every milestone, sharing in every joy, and offering unconditional love that will continue to guide them for years to come.

Though our hearts are broken by her passing, we find comfort in the countless memories she leaves behind—the laughter she shared, the beauty she created, the lessons she taught, and the love she gave so freely. Melody's light will continue to shine in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.

She will be deeply missed, forever loved, and never forgotten.
