1926 - 2023
WWII Army Airborne veteran, Clinton “Carl” Flinner, Jr. left this world on Sunday, October 8, 2023 at the age of 97. He will be sadly missed and will always hold a place in our hearts. Carl was born on August 9, 1926, in Charleston, West Virginia, to proud parents Clinton Sr. and Martha Flinner. His journey through life was a remarkable one, marked by dedication, service, and an unwavering love for his family. On October 8, 2023, we bid farewell to a true American hero.
A young patriot, Clinton answered the call of duty in 1942, joining the United States Army Airborne during World War II. He was a part of the 11th Airborne, 127th Airborne Engineer Battalion, and he was deployed to the Pacific, where he served valiantly in the campaigns for New Guinea, Leyte, Luzon, and the Southern Philippines. His service exemplified courage and sacrifice, earning him the respect and admiration of all who served alongside him. Sergeant Clinton Flinner Jr. retired from the Army in 1949, having earned numerous commendations for his service. His awards included the Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon, the WWII Victory Medal, the Occupation Medal, a Parachutist Badge, and a Good Conduct Medal.
After his honorable military service, Clinton dedicated his time to raising a loving family. He found joy in taking trips out to East Texas to work on his ranch, cultivating a deep connection with the land and creating cherished memories with his loved ones. A man of simple pleasures, Clinton enjoyed going on walks and fishing. His appreciation for the tranquility of the outdoors reflected his gentle and kind nature. His love for his family was unwavering, and he instilled values of honor, duty, and love in all who had the privilege to know him.
Clinton Flinner Jr. leaves behind a legacy of courage, dedication, and a deep love for his family. His memory will forever be etched in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to share their lives with him.
Rest in peace, dear Clinton. Your service, love, and memory will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing you.
