Benefits of Preplanning

Make Your Wishes Known

When a loss happens, emotions are high and families sometimes have different opinions on what should be done. Preplanning helps prevent confusion by making your wishes clear ahead of time. It also gives your family guidance on how you’d like your funeral or memorial service to be handled.

Gain Peace of Mind

Our staff will carry out the arrangements you want, just as you directed. Once plans have been arranged, you and your family can rest easier knowing that when the time comes, those uncomfortable decisions have already been made. When the time comes, your family can focus on grieving and being together, instead of trying to make difficult decisions under pressure.

Explore Funding Options

When you preplan your funeral arrangements, there are more options for funding the funeral. A preneed insurance policy, life insurance policy or other payment options can all be arranged ahead of time. At the time of need, services often must be paid in full, so having options planned can make everything feel more manageable later.

Relieves the Burden from Family

Following the death of a loved one, there are more than 150 decisions that may need to be made within the first day or two. The stress that comes with making those decisions — while also grieving a loss — can be reduced by arranging your final wishes ahead of time. If those decisions are already made, your loved ones aren’t left wondering what you would have wanted and how they should proceed with funeral plans. Your family can focus on being together and beginning the healing process.

Common Questions about Preplanning

  • What steps are involved in prearranging a funeral?

The first step is simply writing down your wishes. Consider whether you would prefer burial or cremation and make note of any ideas you have for the service, cemetery choice and other details. If you’ve already made decisions, or even if you’re not sure yet, we encourage you to schedule a time to meet with one of our prearrangement counselors. We’ll answer your questions, explain your options and walk you through the different ways to pay for the funeral.

  • What information do I need to prearrange a funeral?

You’ll need some basic information about yourself or the person you are planning for, such as date of birth, marital status and parents’ full names. Beyond that, you’ll choose burial or cremation, what type of service you would like and which cemetery to use. If you’re unsure about any of these details, that’s completely OK. Our caring staff will guide you through the process.

  • Do I have to pay in advance?

Not necessarily. Preplanning simply means making your wishes known. That said, many families also choose to pre-fund their funeral arrangements. Doing so can help relieve the financial burden on your loved ones later and bring added peace of mind.

  • Can I transfer my plans to or from another funeral home?

Yes. If you have plans with another funeral home and would like to transfer them to Roberts-Martinez Funeral Home, we can help you with that. And if you move away and need to transfer your arrangements to another funeral home, we will assist you with that as well.
